ACQUISITA AL TESORO DEL GRAN BALIATO LA RESURREZIONE DI LAZZARO (SEC. XVII) DI PIETER VAN MOL

Si arrichisce il tesoro del Gran Baliato con “La Resurrezione di Lazzaro”, un olio su tavola del XVII secolo, di scuola fiamminga, attribuito a Pieter van Mol, proveniente da una collezioni privata della Germania settentrionale.

Pieter van Mol (Anversa, 1599 – Parigi, 1650) è stato un pittore fiammingo che cominciò l’apprendistato a soli 12 anni ad Anversa e divenne maestro nel 1622. Nel 1631 si trasferì a Parigi, dove quattro anni dopo ricevette l’incarico di eseguire affreschi nella cappella del Sacro Cuore della chiesa dei Carmelitani. Nel 1648 partecipò alla fondazione dell’Accademia reale di pittura.

Fu uno stimato ritrattista, ma è ricordato soprattutto come pittore di storia fedele alla tradizione di Rubens, come attestano le sue opere conservate al Louvre di Parigi (Deposizione dalla croce) e nei musei di Marsiglia (Adorazione dei Magi), Reims (Deposizione dalla croce) e Rouen (Generosità di Scipione l’Africano).

THE TREASURY OF THR GRAND BAILIWICK ACQUIRED THE RESURRECTION OF LAZARUS (XVII CENTURY) BY PIETER VAN MOL

The treasury of the Grand Bailiwick is enriched with ‚The Resurrection of Lazarus‘, a 17th century oil on panel painting of the Flemish school, attributed to Pieter van Mol, from a private collection in northern Germany.

Pieter van Mol (Antwerp, 1599 – Paris, 1650) was a Flemish painter who began his apprenticeship at the age of 12 in Antwerp and became a master in 1622. In 1631 he moved to Paris, where four years later he was commissioned to execute frescoes in the Sacred Heart chapel of the Carmelite church. In 1648, he participated in the foundation of the Royal Academy of Painting.

He was an esteemed portrait painter, but is remembered above all as a painter of history faithful to the tradition of Rubens, as his works in the Louvre in Paris (Deposition from the Cross) and in the museums of Marseilles (Adoration of the Magi), Rheims (Deposition from the Cross) and Rouen (Generosity of Scipio Africanus) attest.
