Návšteva arcibiskupa z Monreale v iniciatíve San Lazzaro Onlus „SOLIDARITY HEALTH“

VISITA DELL’ARCIVESCOVO DI MONREALE ALL’INIZIATIVA “SANITA’ SOLIDALE” DELLA SAN LAZZARO ONLUS

Prosegue con grande successo l’iniziativa della sanità solidale promossa dalla San Lazzaro Onlus – braccio operativo del Gran Baliato di Sicilia dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme – in collaborazione con la Karol strutture sanitarie, l’Asp di Palermo e la Caritas, che prevede visite gratuite per le persone indigenti di Palermo, che hanno difficoltà ad accedere alle cure.

Il 28 gennaio 2023 Mons. Gualtiero Isacchi, arcivescovo di Monreale, diocesi alla quale fanno capo sia l’Ordine di San Lazzaro che la San Lazzaro Onlus, ha visitato l’iniziativa ed incontrato gli operatori ed i pazienti, questi ultimi appartenenti a diverse etnie e religiosi, i quali si sottopongono agli accertamenti sanitarie ed alle relative cure.

L’iniziativa prevede una visita gratuita l’ultimo sabato di ogni mese presso la clinica Cosentino di Corso dei Mille a Palermo nelle seguenti branche specialistiche: chirurgia, ginecologia, cardiologia, dermatologia, radiologia a cui si aggiungono per quest’anno anche pediatria, medicina interna e ortopedia, oltre agli esami di laboratorio. I pazienti vengono selezionati dalla Caritas in base alle segnalazioni che arrivano dalle varie comunità e associazioni.

“Esprimo il mio plauso per questa nobile iniziativa – ha detto l’arcivescovo Isacchi – che mette insieme professionisti, imprenditori e volontari a sostegno degli invisibili, ovvero verso coloro che non hanno la possibilità di accedere al sistema sanitario. È un progetto che dà speranza in un momento in cui la logica dello scarto sembra prevalere e aiuta a diffondere un messaggio di recupero della dignità della persona e dell’accoglienza verso gli ultimi”.

Il Presidente della Karol, l’avv. Zummo, membro dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro, ha rinnovato la disponibilità e l’impegno a sostegno del progetto che viene incontro alle esigenze di chi oggi non si può permettere le cure sanitarie e che purtroppo sono in tanti, offrendo le strutture sanitarie della Karol ed il personale per continuare a fare anche prevenzione, perché tra i pazienti sono state diagnosticate, attraverso i check up, anche malattie oncologiche che, se non fossero state rilevate in tempo, avrebbero certamente portato alla morte del paziente.

Il Presidente della San Lazzaro Onlus, Dr. Canzone, ha sottolineato come siano state estese le tipologie di prestazioni specialistiche, rispetto a quelle inziali, e che, se nel 2022 sono state effettuate oltre 1.800 visite, per l’anno in corso si pensa di superare sicuramente le duemila, con un incremento del numero di medici che hanno voluto aderire al progetto, mettendo a disposizione la propria professionalità ed il loro tempo.

L’incontro con l’arcivescovo ha visto anche un momento di preghiera comune, ecumenica ed interconfessionale, presso la cappella della clinica, con grande partecipazione dei presenti.

 VISIT OF THE ARCHBISHOP OF MONREALE TO THE ‚SOLIDARITY HEALTH‘ INITIATIVE OF THE SAN LAZZARO ONLUS

The solidarity health initiative promoted by the San Lazzaro Onlus – the operational arm of the Grand Bailiwick of Sicily of the Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem – in cooperation with Karol health facilities, the Palermo Provincial Health Authority and Caritas, which provides free examinations for the needy people of Palermo who have difficulty accessing treatment, continues with great success.

On 28 January 2023, Monsignor Gualtiero Isacchi, Archbishop of Monreale, the diocese to which both the Order of St. Lazarus and the San Lazzaro Onlus belong, visited the initiative and met with the operators and patients, the latter belonging to different ethnic and religious groups, who undergo health checks and related treatment.

The initiative provides for free examinations on the last Saturday of every month at the Cosentino clinic in Corso dei Mille in Palermo in the following specialist branches: surgery, gynaecology, cardiology, dermatology, radiology, to which paediatrics, internal medicine and orthopaedics will also be added for this year, in addition to laboratory tests. The patients are selected by Caritas on the basis of reports from the various communities and associations.

„I applaud this noble initiative,“ said Archbishop Isacchi, „which brings together professionals, entrepreneurs and volunteers in support of the invisible, i.e. those who do not have access to the healthcare system. It is a project that gives hope at a time when the logic of discarding seems to prevail and helps to spread a message of recovery of the dignity of the person and of welcome towards the last ones‘.

The President of Karol, lawyer Zummo, a member of the San Lazzaro Order, renewed his willingness and commitment to support the project, which meets the needs of those who cannot afford health care today, which unfortunately are many, by offering Karol’s health facilities and staff to continue to carry out prevention as well, because among the patients, check-ups have also diagnosed oncological diseases that, if not detected in time, would certainly have led to the patient’s death.

The President of the San Lazzaro Onlus, Dr. Canzone, emphasised that the types of specialist services had been extended, compared to the initial ones, and that while over 1,800 check-ups were carried out in 2022, for the current year there are plans to certainly exceed 2,000, with an increase in the number of doctors who have wanted to join the project, making their professionalism and time available.

The meeting with the archbishop also included a moment of common, ecumenical and interdenominational prayer in the clinic chapel, with great participation by those present.
