MEDITAZIONE PER LA PASQUA DEL VESCOVO ORDINARIO

DELLA CHIESA CATTOLICA NORDICA

Cari confratelli e consorelle dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme!

Il Salmista nella sua profezia sul giorno di Pasqua (Sal. 118,24) dice: „Questo è il giorno che il Signore ha fatto“. Anche se ogni giorno „è fatto per gioire“ (Sal. 90,14), il giorno della risurrezione lo è ancora di più. È il „giorno del Signore“, come ci dice San Giovanni Evangelista, che apre un nuovo futuro all’umanità (Apoc. 1,10).

Sant’Ignazio, il Padre della Chiesa, sviluppa lo stesso tema della centralità del giorno di Pasqua nella sua lettera ai Magnesiani, affermando che „nel giorno del Signore è sorta la nostra vita per mezzo di Cristo e abbiamo ricevuto la fede e la speranza“ (IX, 1). Paradossalmente, il tempo stesso è redento da un evento della storia che dà alla vita un nuovo fondamento.

Così che, nel quadro del racconto della creazione della Genesi, la resurrezione prende ora il posto del sabato ebraico. Il giorno del Signore è allo stesso tempo il primo giorno e l’ottavo giorno. Dio ha dato riposo a tutte le cose e ha fatto l’inizio di un altro mondo. San Barnaba, un altro Padre della Chiesa, acconsente e conclude: „Perciò celebriamo con gioia l’ottavo giorno in cui Gesù è risorto dai morti“ (XV: 8f). Fin dai tempi più antichi la Chiesa cristiana ha celebrato il primo giorno della settimana l’Eucaristia come segno vitale della risurrezione di Cristo (Atti 20:7).

Così la domenica di Pasqua è ancora considerata come la domenica di tutte le domeniche. È il giorno più celebrativo dell’anno perché in quel giorno Dio ha compiuto le sue promesse attraverso suo Figlio Gesù Cristo, il nostro Salvatore.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem!

The Psalmist in his prophecy about Easter Day (Ps 118:24) says: «This is the day the Lord has made.» Even if every day «is made to rejoice in» (Ps 90:14), the day of the resurrection is all the more so. It is the «Lord’s day», as St. John the Evangelist tells us, opening up a new future for mankind (Apoc 1:10).

St. Ignatius, the Church Father, develops the same theme of the centrality of Easter Day in his letter to the Magnesians, stating that «on the Lord’s day our life sprang up through Christ and we received faith and hope» (IX:1). Paradoxically, time itself is redeemed by an event in history giving life a new foundation.

So that, within the framework of the Genesis account of creation, the resurrection now takes the place of the Hebrew Sabbath. The Lord’s day is at the same time the first day and the eight day. God gave rest to all things and made the beginning of another world. St. Barnabas, another Church Father, assents and concludes: «Therefore we celebrate with gladness the eight day in which Jesus rose from the dead» (XV: 8f). From the earliest times the Christian Church has on the first day of the week celebrated the Eucharist as a life giving sign of Christ’s resurrection (Acts 20:7).

Thus Easter Sunday is still set aside as the Sunday of all Sundays. It is the most celebratory day of the year for on that day God fulfilled his promises through his Son Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
